I found this short podcast (14 minutes) a helpful prompt to reflect on love: God's love, and our own, in a time a worldwide epidemic. Though a portion of the conversation is about some of the bad theology that is espoused during times like these, the host leads us to reflecting on love in a way that is aligned with our definition in CLC. You can download or listen to it here: https://apprenticeinstitute.org/2020/04/08/god-is-in-this/ The prompts for reflection include: What is the will of God? Whatever is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom 12.2) And what is good? "My definition of good is that which benefits or makes something well. And the highest good is love."
"God is in this epidemic in powerful ways... this is a time in which God can and is doing amazing things...." Where is God in the midst of this trial? God is right here with us, right in the middle of the suffering... At work in hospitals and in homes and at all levels of government, whether recognized or not.
When we look back at this time, will be able to say that we did our part to engage in the good that is certainly God's will? I used this question to reflect on what my love is looking like these days and to wonder what small steps I could take to expand my practice.
